Biography

From South / East London, Cloud Studies was formed in 2024 and comprises of Adam Cresswell (of Saloon & Rodney Cromwell), graphic designer Martin J Langthorne on guitar and drummer Nat Guest. Live they are joined by Adrian Taylor also on guitar. The catalyst for their forming was that Adam and Martin needed something to do with the vast array of effects pedals that had amassed.

Their debut single ‘Ghosts’ is one for fans of The Cure, Beach Fossils, Cool Heat, Beach House or Galaxie 500. With airy, plaintive vocals, a neo-krautock beat, layers of spacious reverb-drenched guitars, and a floating atmosphere that is perfect for spooky season, it is not quite shoegaze and it’s not quite goth. We call it gothgaze. Influenced by the Usbourne book, ‘World of the Unknown: Ghosts’, a hauntological vintage cult-classic filled with screaming skulls, phantom ships and demon dogs, the lyrics tells a more human story though. After the loss of a loved one, the protagonist is haunted by their memory and each night in his dreams is visited by their apparition which dances and serenades him.

‘Ghosts’ was released by Happy Robots on 18th October '24 and the band played their debut sold out show the following night. The song, timed to release just before halloween, was incredibly well received reaching 3,000 plays on Spotify within a couple of days and at last count has amassed over 27,000 views across TikTok and Instagram.
